About CapaLens

Built from the hiring manager’s side of the desk.

CapaLens exists because engineering recruitment should understand what the team needs before it starts sending people.

Founder

Daniel Abley

Daniel’s engineering career began in the Royal Air Force, where he spent 11 years as an Avionics Technician. He later moved into manufacturing engineering and maintenance leadership, with responsibility for multi-shift engineering teams, technical capability, recruitment, maintenance performance and development.

CapaLens grew out of the practical challenge of recruiting into a team with real strengths and real gaps. A generic “multi-skilled engineer” job description often hides the most important requirement: whether the person can add the capability the shift is currently missing.

The result is an approach that combines recruitment with structured technical assessment and team capability thinking.

Evidence over interview polish

Confidence, fluency and a well-written CV are not substitutes for demonstrated engineering capability.

Context over generic matching

The same candidate can be an excellent hire for one engineering team and the wrong hire for another. The gap matters.

Transparency over false precision

CapaLens avoids arbitrary percentage-match scores. Where evidence is strong, limited or incomplete, the output should say so clearly.

Employer judgement remains central

CapaLens supports the decision; it does not replace site-specific competency checks, authorisations or the employer’s final hiring judgement.

What capability is your team actually missing?

That is the first question CapaLens wants to understand.
